Residual Current Based Earth Fault Detection
The SYCON 7800 Earth Fault Relay detects earth fault conditions by measuring the residual current from neutral to earth. Under normal three-phase conditions, the vector sum of the three-phase currents is zero. When a ground fault occurs, the vector sum becomes non-zero and residual current can be sensed. The relay compares the sensed current with the set point to detect the earth fault.
